Powerlines
By Bob Young
By Bob Young
Sitting in rush hour traffic one day, Young was struck by the lofty height of some electrical towers in Kingston’s east end. The resulting picture isn’t a conventionally “beautiful” landscape. But it's very harshness arrests me. The power lines seem to energize the sky, with patches of light green like signs of wiser energy systems to come. This is North American suburbia—where most of us now live. It has many non-places like this, spots in which I’m unlikely to have a leisurely picnic! Still, it has a certain bleak beauty.
