901 Elm Street - Archival Print

About 901 Elm Street
The windows of this building are on a slant, with the top of the windows tipping outwards toward the road. As a result, they reflect the exterior scene of the road like a mirror, but distorted by the angle. It gives the entire scene a slightly surreal, other-worldly ambiance. I used a primary colour scheme to harmonize the picture and make it feel more solid and permanent. During the heat of the day, the people are not on the street. They take refuge in the shadowed depths of the buildings or take an afternoon siesta. I also found it interesting that there was no sign on the obviously commercial building so I had to do some research to discover its purpose – it is a test kitchen for Kroger, a major grocery chain.
