For the past 40+ years, we’ve grown from a local business into a leading Canadian framing powerhouse.
Where Kingston Frameworks Began
Wayne Morris had a vision for a do-it-yourself custom framing store, something Kingston did not have in 1982. While there were several other custom framers, there was no place where service was first. On a sunny Saturday in June of 1982, Kingston Frameworks was born, and there were line ups!
But the industry began to change entering the 90s, and DIY was becoming less popular, so Wayne pivoted the entire store to become a custom framing location with an art gallery. What really set Kingston Frameworks apart from other custom framers was the "service first" mentality that was a part of their DIY Framing DNA.
Kingston Frameworks continued to innovate - the ONLY custom framer in the area to invest in state-of-the-art technology, including a Computerized Mat Cutter (CMC), Coldmount Laminating, and Giclée Printing, which led to its market leader position - serving every market in the area, including retail clients, universities, military, corporate and artists.
Next Generation // Transformation
Colin Morris, Wayne's oldest son, took interest in the business one night over dinner. As the story goes, Wayne was contemplating closing the business, saying no one wants to buy it in today's digital business climate. Colin attempted to convince his father that it was definitely worth trying to sell! It was a cornerstone of Kingston with a loyal clientele, clearly someone would be interested!
As it turns out, Colin found it very interesting the more he thought about it, and in 2018, Colin joined the family business with fresh ideas and LOTS to learn.
Colin discovered ways to modernize the business and bring Kingston Frameworks to a more national and global audience. It began with online framing, which grew into art shipping, and finally into Wholesale Services for artists and galleries. Our business grew rapidly, incorporating new services, and more modern technology. In 2024, we grew to the point that we needed to expand to our new, amazing facility!
Our First Satellite Location
With a new state-of-the-art facility, Colin invested into new equipment to increase efficiencies and provide new services to clients. The Kingston Frameworks team was ready for greater projects and higher volumes.
On October 15th, 2024, we opened our first satellite location in Belleville, Ontario, offering service to the entire Quinte and Prince Edward County region where there was a distinct lack of options for framing, art restoration, and wholesale artist services available.
We opened at 281 Front St, in the heart of downtown Belleville, and the Belleville community has been extremely supportive and enthusiastic. Now with a greater service area, Kingston Frameworks and Belleville Frameworks are taking on many more wonderful projects.
We owe our success to our incredible team, our amazing community, and of course, to you. Thank you for choosing Kingston Frameworks!
